DID YOU KNOW?

There’s a magical journey that happens every year, where millions of Monarch butterflies flutter their way from Canada to a hidden paradise in central Mexico called Valle de Bravo. Imagine a sky filled with delicate wings, as these tiny adventurers travel over 2,500 miles to find their winter haven. I had the absolute joy of witnessing this enchanting migration in person, and it felt like stepping into a real-life fairytale!

This trip to Valle De Bravo, Mexico, was more than I could’ve imagined and I can’t imagine how I’ll ever top it!

Girl Around The Globe, the amazing company behind this journey, made everything so special. Dominique Jackson, the curator and owner, was a dream to travel with. She was so kind and attentive, handling every aspect of the trip with such grace. I felt truly taken care of. I would say the two themes of this trip were luxury and surprise.

DAY 1 - Welcome to Valle De Bravo!

Settling into Paradise

After a scenic two-hour drive from Mexico City, we arrived in the picturesque town of Valle de Bravo, nestled on Lake Avándaro. Our weekend home, Villa Sol by Rodavento, welcomed us with open arms—or rather, with a refreshing cucumber drink which was delightful!

The moment I stepped into my suite, I was completely enamored. Sunlight streamed through soft linen drapes, casting a warm glow on the king-sized bed surrounded by the incredible charm of traditional Mexican decor. On a small table, I found a delightful surprise— snacks I’d never seen before and a strawberry-flavored mezcal drink. It felt like stepping into a whimsical world, very “Alice in Wonderland.” Next to these treats was a heartfelt note from Dominique, expressing her gratitude for joining this once-in-a-lifetime trip. I couldn’t wait to explore more, so I flung open the French doors and was greeted by a view so stunning, it brought tears to my eyes.

 Lunch Time!

After settling in, it was time to explore the town and satisfy our hunger.

I wore my custom stacked denim in the camouflage print by 6th Street Vintage. I chose to soften the look with my off-the-shoulder wrap top by Lulus to compliment the new sandals I purchased in downtown CDMX from a woman who handmade the shoes.

The town was alive with a festival, we had the opportunity to connect with the locals and we were blessed to meet a kind woman who gifted each of us a sunflower, calling us “beautiful.” It was such a sweet gesture, I was overwhelmed by the love we received from the people of Valle De Bravo overall! We stumbled upon a restaurant that served Italian cuisine, Mil Delicias, where the food was as delicious as the name suggests! It was exactly what we needed after our journey—so delicious!

The Welcome Dinner

Later that evening, my favorite part of any trip arrived: dressing up! I chose a vintage tunic from 6th Street Vintage, a beautiful yellow piece embroidered with a butterfly design. The intricate beading formed swirling patterns around the butterfly, capturing the essence of their flight. Complimented by my hair styled in butterfly-shaped braids, adding an extra touch of whimsy to the look.

We headed to Cinco Rodavento, where we were treated to mezcal margaritas on the rooftop just as the sun began to set behind the mountains. The view was unbelievable—a perfect backdrop for our photo op! But the surprises didn’t end there. After drinks, we were escorted to a gazebo draped with market lights surrounded by exotic plants for our welcome dinner. The table was elegantly set, and the whole experience felt like a dream. We ended the night with surprise fireworks! They were unplanned but I believe it was God’s plan!

Day 2

The Main Event – The Monarch Butterfly Migration

The highlight of the trip! I couldn’t resist wearing my monarch butterfly-printed jumpsuit for the occasion. It was a bold choice, but it felt so right. As we explored, children pointed and exclaimed, “Mariposa! Mariposa!” with smiles, and I felt like a butterfly myself. Unfortunately, the real butterflies didn’t land on me as I’d hoped, but the experience was still magical.

We traveled by horseback through the butterfly sanctuary, surrounded by thousands of fluttering wings. It was a sight I’ll never forget.

Shopping Adventures & Final Farewell

The rest of the day was all about free time to explore, perfect for a little shopping spree! I found a small boutique in one of the town’s alleys (if there is shopping I will find it!). We closed the store down, and though I didn’t catch the name or location because my phone died, I have photos of an outfit I put together with some of the treasures I found.

That evening, we dined at a Japanese restaurant, called Altitud and I wore an outfit I put together with my new purchases. The trip was coming to an end, but the memories I made were unforgettable.

Final Thoughts: This journey to Valle de Bravo with Girl Around The Globe was nothing short of extraordinary. The Monarch Butterfly Migration was a dream! I made new friends as I was fearlessly being myself, with bold outfits, a big personality, and humor at every turn, and every moment was filled with wonder and enchantment. I can’t wait for my next adventure!
